PROJECTS

Community Project

Students learned about the three main types of communities; rural, suburban, and urban.  They learned that we are a rural community because we have lots of land, farming, and a small population.  We got to take a tour with Kevin at Piggly Wiggly and Chief Jay came to talk with us.  We also met Lois of Ty's Place and Debby and Chad from Perron Trucking came to let us explore his truck.  As part of this unit each student wrote a letter to an important community member that interests them.  They also researched their topic and then created a Google Slides presentation.  Those are linked below:

Science - Inclined Planes and Friction

By building their own ramps and testing different inclines and object, students learned about inclined planes and friction.  They learned that higher inclines make objects travel faster and objects having more friction make objects travel more slowly.

World Cultures

Students are learning about cultures around the world.  We started by discovering Mexico through online research including articles and videos.  From what students learned, we planned a fiesta which included traditional dances and songs as well as making (and hitting) our own pinata! Students also learned about Egypt, Italy, Australia, China, and Brazil.  At the end of the unit, each student chose a country to find more information on and then presented their findings to the class - very professional!

Writing and Technology

Is Google the way of the future?  I don't know...but if it is, our class will be ready!  We have used Google slides for presentations, Google docs to share information, and Google classroom for connecting.  Student continue to produce projects using Microsoft products such as Power Point for their country presentation and Word for publishing final drafts of writing including their How-To and Short Stories.

Science - Air Pressure Unit

In science class we have moved on to our Earth and Space unit.  Recently students learned about air pressure; that high pressure brings us good weather, and that low pressure brings us lousy weather.  Linked below are short videos of each student acting as a meteorologist.
