I use Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) from Fountas and Pinnell because I have seen students experience great success within this series. We also do independent book studies to engage students in their own interests and meet more middle school expectations.

Cursive

Handwriting is a skill. Reading and writing in cursive can improve fine motor functioning, comprehension, and can increase student confidence. I strongly believe in the Handwriting Without Tears series for learning both print and cursive.

Technology

Students are instructed to use the proper key-finger strokes and are given daily opportunities to use this skill on the computer. This includes working with Microsoft and Google technology. They give presentations to build upon their speaking and listening skills.

CURRICULUM

Math

The enVision series from Pearson is Common Core ready and involves project-based instruction as well as having hands-on and digital pieces in addition to the student workbooks. I continue to reinforce basic skills through daily math jobs where students are required to tell time, count money, practice facts, and solve math stories.
